Refurbishing and/or upgrading existing RTOs can be a much more economical solution than replacing the RTO with a new RTO.
Some of the most common issues with existing older Regenerative Thermal Oxidizers (RTOs) include:
1. Media Failure
- Particulate and Condensable
- SiO2
2. Chloride Stress Corrosion Cracking (CSCC) Failure
- Insulation Anchor Failure
3. Cold Face Media Support Failure
4. Flow Control Valve Failure
NESTEC offers a free evaluation and recommendation for upgrading your RTO system and provides ongoing service, no matter the original manufacturer.
These issues, and others can be corrected by NESTEC without replacing the entire oxidizer, while increasing the overall performance of the RTO unit.
1. Media Failure: The correct media bed composition and type of media (including multiple media layers) can eliminate or minimize RTO heat exchange problems. NESTEC has recently upgraded several RTO units and is presently replacing media in a MDF facility in Pennsylvania.
- Heat exchange media plugging, degradation and fusion
- Burner flame impingement
- Plugging
•Condensable and Salts (metal ions)
•SiO2 (from silicone hydrocarbon processes)
2. Chloride Stress Corrosion Cracking (CSCC) Failure: Chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking is form of corrosion which embrittles metal, producing sudden and often unpredictable failures. CSCC of austenitic stainless steel happens when very specific conditions exist simultaneously. This failure mode can be minimized, and often eliminated entirely, by removing one or more of the necessary conditions. NESTEC has addressed these problems in several existing RTO with cold face failures and/or insulation anchor failures:
- Smith & TSI RTO CSCC Cold Face Failures
- Lundberg RTO CSCC Insulation anchor failures
3. Lundberg & TSI Cold Face Media Support Failures
4. REECO Hydraulic Butterfly Flow Control Valve Issues
- NESTEC is presently refurbishing a 1995 seven chamber REECO RTO, which includes:
- Using the same foundation and inlet duct connection
- Replacing the hydraulic butterfly valves with new fast acting pneumatic poppet valves
- New air flow distribution and floating cold face support system
- New heat exchange media system optimized for the specific application
- Chloride stress corrosion cracking resistant construction
- Addition of Auto-Thermal Alignment Control
- Other features to improve performance and reliability
NESTEC offers a free evaluation and recommendation for upgrading your RTO system and provides ongoing service, no matter the original manufacturer.
NESTEC, Inc. can also provide a single point responsibility and service/training for all makes of oxidizer systems, with 24/7 responses and cellular on-line router service. The service is provided via outbound connection with a UDP or HTTPS to our cloud based VPN servers to provide immediate connection to the oxidizer control panel, remote service assistance, and diagnostic support. Network segregation is provided through the Talk2M tunnel and the remote user can only reach the devices connected to the oxidizer side (LAN side) of the remote connection. Devices connected to the rest of the network are completely and securely segregated.
Call for your simple financial payback analysis for optimizing, upgrading, and/or refurbishing your existing RTO equipment. If refurbishment is not the right option, NESTEC Inc. can offer a new simple, rugged, reliable oxidizer system that is designed for your specific application. Every project is backed by years of intellectual experience to insure the best and most economical solution.
