Nestec’s unique MCC (Multi-combustion chamber) RTO/RCO controls condensable and organic particulates, as well as volatile organic compounds and hazardous air pollutants (VOC/HAP), without process down time. The unit can be sized and configured to meet intricately specified process bake out needs, such as those present in the Plywood and Composite Wood Panel (PCWP), Pellet, Ethanol, and other industries.
Each Nestec MCC RTO/RCO full flow on line bake out feature is a solution customized to suit specific industry applications and process conditions.
The Nestec full flow on line bake out feature is integrated into the standard MCC RTO/RCO to provide a high temperature bake out of each heat recovery chamber, much like a self-cleaning oven, but without disruption or shut down of the process operation. The RTO/RCO bake out function can be completed without scheduled down times or lengthy maintenance procedures.
The Nestec MCC RTO/RCO on line bake out can be scheduled on a frequency tied to the specific RTO needs rather than available process down time. This ability will:
- Provide a significant savings in lost production time
- Virtually eliminate the potential for large accumulations of organic material in the MCC RTO/RCO
- Essentially eradicate the associated potential for run-away fires that can occur with offline bake outs procedures due to excessive organic buildup within the RTO/RCO
- Substantially reduce the energy consumption associated with off line bake outs
The Nestec full flow on line bake out feature heats each individual heat recovery chamber from the purification chamber down (exhaust flow), eliminating over temperature exposure of RCO catalyst and/or other components. Each individual bake out chamber exhaust and any potential smoke and/or un-combusted products from the bake out are blended with the exhaust from the normal operating chambers, substantially reducing the potential emission concentrations and/or opacity up the stack. In addition, most of the bake out energy is recycled back into the MCC RTO/RCO unit, providing a considerable energy savings over less advanced offline bake out procedures.
The graph below shows the associated operating conditions during the bake out process for two (2) chambers, baked out individually.

Each Nestec MCC RTO/RCO full flow on line bake out feature is a solution customized to suit specific industry applications and process conditions. Emerging processes and innovative engineering are integrated into these systems to maximize efficiency, eliminate down time, and minimize operating costs.
Existing RTO/RCO retrofits are available. For example, Nestec recently converted a seven (7) chamber, single combustion chamber, hydraulic butterfly valve RTO unit to a Nestec MCC RTO with unique, simple, rugged, reliable pneumatic poppet valve operation and all of the latest MCC design benefits.
