Economic, environmental, and regulatory constraints are forcing every business today to reconsider older, wasteful models, centered on “take – make – dispose” to ones that are regenerative by design. NESTEC is ahead of the curve. Long before others caught on, we were developing and improving the energy saving technologies that make this new model viable, such as our remarkably advanced Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO/RCO).
Purification exhaust energy is captured and reused within the oxidation process, over and over, thus dramatically reducing the oxidation energy consumption—by as much as 96%! The energy in the RTO/RCO stack exhaust, as well as the process RTO/RCO inlet energy, is also recycled back to plant and/or production processes to provide additional energy savings, resulting in a truly comprehensive air emission control and energy conservation system.
“A circular economy is a regenerative system in which resource input and waste, emission, and energy leakage are minimized by slowing, closing, and narrowing material and energy loops. This can be achieved through long-lasting design, maintenance, repair, reuse, remanufacturing, refurbishing, and recycling.”
Circular economy – Wikipedia (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circular economy)
NESTEC’s approach in reusing energy over and over in a variety of ways reduces the operating cost of air emission control systems, conserves resources, and decreases harmful emissions—all good indicators that you’re shrinking your carbon footprint.

NESTEC has provided several energy conservation systems in conjunction with the RTO/RCO installations, many of which are providing substantial annual savings with very attractive return on investments (ROIs). Thus, NESTEC’s energy conservation and emission control systems direct positive cash flow to the bottom line.
- NESTEC installed a complete Integral system for a paper filter manufacture which included a 70,000 SCFM RTO along with a heat recovery boiler. The RTO maintains the VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) and HAP (Hazardous Air Pollutant) control requirement and operates with virtually no fuel consumption. In addition, the RTO provides 31,000 lbs per hour of steam from the heat recovery boiler, saving $1,225,000 per year in process fuel (based on a fuel cost of $4.00/mmBTUs and 8,700 hours per year operation). It also eliminates the associated emissions from the combustion of 306,000 mmBTU/yr of fuel.
- NESTEC installed two separate RTOs, one in the U.S. and one in Europe, which also included an energy conservation system for a unique bioconversion process. In addition to the virtually self-sustaining RTO, the secondary heat recovery system provides additional savings of 20 mmBTU/hr for the dryers plus 2.25 mmBTU/hr through a boiler economizer system, saving $774,300 per year in process fuel (based on a fuel cost of $4.00/mmBTUs and 8,700 hours per year operation).
- NESTEC installed two 46,000 SCFM Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO) systems to a potato frying processing facility. The drying section of the process, just before the fryer, requires clean, indirectly heated air to remove moisture in the potatoes after they have been blanched. The exhaust energy from the RTOs pass through a secondary heat recovery system to preheat the clean ambient air required for the dryers. The system provides $330,000 per year in process fuel savings (based on a fuel cost of $4.00/mmBTUs and 8,700 hours per year operation).
- Many other RTO/RCO and energy conservation systems have been installed by NESTEC and are providing annual energy savings and positive cash flow to the bottom line.
NESTEC’s familiarity with RTO/RCOs and energy conservation is a field of knowledge acquired over many years of actual practice, and has resulted in superior understanding or mastery of the RTO/RCO and energy conservation systems. This in-depth knowledge has produced several NESTEC installations with a positive pay back.
